-It was a battle, but thanks mainly to the Tek-Tips Forums, I set up a functional VPN server on my 2K3 box.
-The purpose of this project is to create a file sharing system among some friends. Any suggestions on the best way to do this?
-So far, users can connect to the VPN if I make a local account for that username/password and set permissions on a certain drive for them to access.
-But this setup does not seem efficient -- I would like clients to browse each other's shared folders over this VPN (in addition to the drives located on the server), but viewing workgroup computers does not reveal the connected clients. Do I need to setup a WINS role? and/or a domain server role too? Browsing directly by machine name or IP works fine, as long as you know who else is on the VPN when you are too.
What I'm really asking for are suggestions for the best way to run a VPN server with file sharing as the main activity. VPN clients need to see the shared drives on the server in addition to each other's shared stuff. I'd really appreciate some setup suggestions here.
