Hi,

I have been having trouble with our VPN, I have setup everything as normal on the server and forwarded the ports 1723 47-51, and 500.

and the user account has dial in access, I have done some research on the error code and all I can see is check the NAT and check the user account settings, but all seems to be fine,

Can anyone suggest anything??

I just did another test with a non existent username, and I still got error 721, so there is no connection made to the server, so I will recreate the nat, and I'll let you know.

I also have this message with a few of our laptops, which i believe to be something to do with HP credential manager i have had to flatten the machines and start again without the HP software.

Don't know if thats of any help

Its true HP software can be a pain, but I don't have any installed.

I have been doing some tests with another router, and I get a different error, which is 800. It seems to point to the router on both errors.

800 means that you cannot connect to the router
721 means that the router lets you connect to it but does not allow through to the server or configuration error with the server.

I am still doing some tests, but I will let you know if I find out anymore.

is there anything on the router about VPN passthrough?

have you done a test with a known working username?

After loads of testing and hair pulling, I finally got it working, and I think it was because I didn't have the network cable from the server plugged straight into the router, it was into a switch.

I did try with another router (linksys WAG200G) which didn't work either, and when I contacted linksys they said that the router supports vpn passthrough but not vpn tunneling, so that didn't work either.

Get a Cisco router! The 871W is a great one, and not that expensive.
Also, if it is a router, and not a switchport in the router, then you would need a crossover cable, unless the router auto-detects.
