VPN drops after 18 minutes connectivity

Dear all,

after 18 minutes a vpn connection drops when using a win2k system through adsl to a firebox 700 through adsl using pptp. The vpn connection drops because it couldn't write to the socket. This only happens when the client is using adsl in combination with win2k. Has anyone encountered this problem also and found a soultion please let me know.

Most probably your ISP is renewing your DHCP-info in said intervals. Pls check with your ISP.

both sides have static IP addresses and both sides do
not use DHCP for the private network and there is no
DHCP used for VPN connection also.

The inactivity setting of the box might break the connection. The box do not recognize PPTP as VPN but normal TCP/IP-connection. The default setting is 5 min. in e.g. SonicWALL-boxes.

HI.

Try lowering the MTU at the remote workstation, this can fix some ADSL and some VPN issues.

Is the connection dropping on:
Idle?
Large file transfer?
"Normal" partial bandwidth usage?
