Let me start out by saying that I am not 100% comfy with VPN, but decided to give it a go anyway. I have a 2003 Server running in a remote location, while connecting via the Windows default VPN client, my connection drops at random intervals. The clients are all XP Pro machines and the disconnect happens on every machine. I'm not sure if this is a problem with my router settings (which I doubt, because it is forwarding PPTP to the server), or a setting in the RRAS console. Please let me know if any further information is needed. Thanks for any help ahead of time.

UPDATE.....

I have eliminated the router being the cause by removing it. Also, the disconnect is happening at exactly 3 minutes every time. This is very odd. Can anyone help me......????????

Have you checked the event viewer to see if there are any errors? Also you might want to use a couple VPN routers instead, connection would be more stable.

Uhm... Well.... Nothing stands out in Event Viewer. Also, the only log file(W3SVC1)that has been modified today, or this month for that matter, seems to only contain IIS stuff. Nothing VPN related stands out to me. I did check on the VPN clients to make sure there was no lockout after 3 minutes and the "Idle Time Before Hanging Up" is set to Never, and the connection is never left idle anyway. Is there any settings anywhere that would say to disconnect after 3 minutes???? Through some "Google-ing" I found others with the same issue, but this issue points to XP Pro SP1 machines. All of my XP machines are fully service packed and updated. Some other issues point to the newer Linksys firmware, but as I mentioned, I completely removed the router and still the same issue. We do not have a VPN router on location, but the router at the remote site is a Comcast router that I believe is a VPN router. This is a very annoying issue. Any other input on this matter is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well I have got to say you have an interesting issue then. The only other thing I can think of is either a firewall or maybe screensaver setting.
