I have actually had my vpn connection working properly untill a few days ago. Here's a breakdown of my hardware and software.

I have a workstation, file server and laptop. The workstation and file server both run xp pro, the laptop runs xp home sp2. Network and internet is via a 3com office connect adsl firewall wireless router. port 1723 is opened on the router on tcp and udp, and i am using dyndns.org for my dns hosting.

I tried to connect to the vpn last night, but no luck. I was scratching my head.

I was running mcafee firewall on all machines, but have since changed to sygate personal firewall. I have full network conectivity through this firewall, and can establish a vpn connection with the laptop conected to the network wirelessly, but not through a separate dial up. I put this down to the firewall, but even with the firewall turned off, i still cannot connect the vpn, it freezes at the "veryfying username" stage.

Also, my incoming connection on the file server machine appears to be being removed upon shutdown, as it is not there when i boot up.

The only other thing i have done is to change the names of the computers, but the network operated perfectly after this change, i did not rename the workgroup.

any help would be appreciated
