Dear VPN Expert

I am currently connecting to VPN via the built in MS XP "Connect TO" client. When I connect I cannot browse the internet... is there are work around for this?

If no work around for the above... I know there are some third party applications for VPN such as VPN client... do these allow me to access the internet from outside?

Thanks very Much

Double click the icon when connected, click properties, go to networking tab, double click Internet Protocol (tcp/ip), click advanced at the bottom right,

sorry---clicked submit on accident...so you click advanced on the bottom right, and in the General tab, the "Use default gateway on remote network" should be checked by default...UNCHECK IT! Click apply, and OK all the way out. You will receive a message about the changes will not take effect until you disconnect and redial the vpn connection. So disconnect and then reconnect. You should now be able to browse the internet by way of your local gateway.

Awsome ... you just saved me tons of headaches.

Thank you so much sir.

Make sure that you (and the network admin if applicable) have fully considered the additional security risks with split tunneling

That's true---when you have it configured this way, a hacker could get into your system through the internet now (using your computer as a gateway to the VPN) and wreak havoc on the VPN.
The better practice is to configure a proxy server to be used for internet access.
