VPN Dial-Up Problem

This problem has been driving me crazy! I have a laptop running Sentinel 1.4. My plan is to dial-up while on the road to my home computer. If I connect my laptop to a friend's LAN, I can create a VPN tunnel and move data back and forth with my desktop - so it seems everything is configured correctly. However, if I use dial-up (via 56K modem) I can still make the VPN connection, but I can't ping, map, or anything.

Any suggestions?
