Recently I had my computer 'reimaged' by IT at the hospital that I work remotely from as a transcriptionist. Now when I connect to VPN, the connection appears to be fine but Outlook, Explorer and Meditech will not connect - "Cannot find server" and "Microsoft Exchange Server is unavailable". I can access the Dictaphone Word Client program so I begin to work, and after exactly 15 minutes (as evidenced by 'Duration' on VPN status), all three programs will open just fine and stay that way until for some reason I need to reboot, then I have to wait 15 minutes again to connect to the 'server'. Even the hospital's intranet is unavailable during this time. The IT Department cannot figure it out. I found out there are three of us with the same problem (who have had their computers reimaged). Their solution - reimage computer again. I tried googling but cannot find similar problem. Any ideas?

which vpn software are you using? is outlook/explorer configured correctly? does your pc work on the LAN?

Contivity VPN Client (Nortel). Not sure if Explorer or Outlook are configured properly. My PC does work on LAN. Explorer works fine before I connect to VPN with no delay.
But if I do not connect to IE before accessing VPN, then it is 15 minutes before a server is found. They do prefer we do it that way so they can restrict access. As well, yesterday I did not shut down PC but only disconnected VPN. This morning as soon as I connected to the VPN, everything was fine, so it likely has something to do with rebooting or starting up computer. The PC is the hospital's and I have no authorization to change any settings.

is there a time out issue on the VPN termination point? is your username restricted by time to use the VPN?

Good question. I will find out. I just discovered something else. If I connect to the VPN and nothing opens, if I close out of the VPN and then reconnect, things open without having to wait for the 15 minutes. I will present this scenario to IT along with your suggestion. Thank you.
