VPN Conceptual Design Confusion

I am going to be setting up a VPN, and was a little uncertain. I am using NT Server 4.0 so must use PPTP.

What I have conceptually is this, I can install a modem in the network server, have whomever is sending information call and connect and transfer the data. Where I get fuzzy is where does the information get stored? Is it equivalent to a network share? And how can I send information back?

The server is connected right now through a router to 15 clients and DSL connection to the internet. Is there a way to use the DSL connection to run a VPN as opposed to dialup? Any help would be great, or a place to find some information would be wonderful. Thanks!!

1) So you are saying you have remote users connecting to your sever and store their data there, correct??? It's just like logging onto the network locally. The user can access the same network share, therefore, the user can store their data there. Where do you need to send information back??? To the remote user? If you have your information for your remote user in one of the network share, they can download it from there.

2)I wouldn't recommand using dial-up as it is slow and image in the middle of upload/download a file, the connection broke. You can use either dial-up or dsl to do vpn. You are creating a tunnel from your remote user's pc to your server over the internet.

i am a newbie to vpn too (set one up just 2 months ago). I hope this helps.
