WE are looking at using VOIP over VPN connections but the problem is that the PBX needs to be able to see individual MAC addresses and all we see is one MAC address for all the VPN client connections.

Anyone come up with a solution for this ?

Would a hardware to hardware VPN connection help or does Cisco always assign the same MAC address for the client connections ?

Thanks

When you pop a layer 3 boundary you won't see the mac address of the machine anymore. What VOIP solution is it?

Not sure, just had an initial discussion with our PBX guy and he indicated that he only runs into this issue with Cisco equipment.

I have Cisco remote access as well as site to site vpns that work fine with VOIP solutions. To name a few they include Shoretel, Avaya, Asterisk, Cisco, and others.

Are they trying to use a software client or a phone? Without the name of the system I can't really help.

It's a Panasonic PBX, he talked about a software and hardware solution. I think he indicated it might be a problem both ways unless we have a hardware to hardware VPN. I was thinking if we did a static NAT for each phone (there will only be 3 or 4 of them) that it might resolve any issue
