I have a remote user who needs to connect to the office over VPN. they have a LAN with a laptop, a pc, a hub and an adsl router. The laptop can connect to VPN and see the internal network when not on the LAN using a dial up connection - it wont connect on the LAN over adsl. The PC is always on the LAN and can create a vpn tunnel successfully but i cant ping the internal ip addresses of the office network, hence i cant map drives. I know it is not a problem with the VPN as i connects is it the router where am i going wrong? any help would be greatly appreciated

If it is a cisco vpn client there is a small utility with it called "set mtu", try setting the netcard to 576 and check again. If that doesnt work your vpn is probably running legacy ipsec which some routers doing nat/pat do not like, try changing to udp encapsulated of some sort like nat-traversal.
