VPN + Cable

[Question 1:]
I have installed a Windows VPN Server at my work, and I want to use it here at home.
I'm using a cableconnection to connect to the internet here at home. My clientpc is connected to the internet using the LAN network. My problem starts when I connect to the VPN. I can still send and receive packets, but I can't surf anymore. Has anyone got an explanation for this ?

Is it possible to use the internetconnection at my work through VPN ?

There is a setting under the network properties for your VPN that says something like "Use Default Gateway on remote network". Make sure that is unchecked. Then you can access any IP address not routed through your VPN directly.
