I am attempting to set a VPN with a Linksys BEFVP41 and Windows 2003. I have been unabl to suceed as thus far. I found the following forum on the topic:

I even tried down grading my firmware from 1.41.1 to 1.40.3f. Know not only does the VPN not work but I can not access the internet or even the router itself. I have pressed the reset button and everything. Trying to ping the router fails, Trying to retransfer the firmware results in a no respnse from server error.

Fortunety I happened to have an extra one.

Anybody have any ideas. Is their a way to upgrade the firmware useing the MAC address.

if you can't access the router any more you might be snookered. try resetting it and have only your workstation and it connected together on the lan connections. what version of the befvp41 is it?...they take different firmware.

as to the vpn setups....you have to be clear as to what you are trying to setup....
1. A tunnel from the befvp41 to the w2003 server that will act as an end point. this tunnel then acts as the "gateway" between your local "network" and the remote "network". these networks must be on different subnets.

or

2. A pass thru point such that an IPSEC client on your network connects to the w2003 server. ip addresses are not as important in this case (the client gets assigned a virtual address usually) but port forwarding on the router is. In this case you are not using any of the tunneling features of the befvp41.

I don't work with any w2003 systems so i don't know all the particulars with it, but the principals should be the same.

I had other pressing issues arise and this one and others got pushed aside

I got the router working tonight with the firmware I attempted to downgrade to. I am now going to attempt to get the VPN working.

Thanks for the help
