Hello, i am trying to set up a VPN between 2 XP Pro machines, one is on a network at my office wich has a T1, and i want that one to connect to my machine at my apartment, wich is on cable, so that i can access the files from my home.

can anyone help me out with this?

thoughts? comments? insults? grunts?

ok when i do that i lose my connection to the network....on the compueter that i want to connect to,

ive set up a incoming connections, network connection on the computer i wan to connect to, and i set up a VPN connection on the other one. when i try to connect it says Verifying username and password, but then it gives an error, 721, the remote computer did not respond, i have the right IP in there, im at aloss.

I don't understand how you are logging on to the network. Let me say what I think. You have access to your central network through some authentication (Say Windows) and then you get an ip address and you are on the network. In that stage with this one particular machine you want to do IPSEC, is that right? Please explain how you are using if not!

Cheers,
Rajesh

ok right now im just testing this at work,

the computer that is trying to connect to the VPN is on a office network (win NT i think, i dont run the network i dont know for sure)and i believe the network is firewalled.

the computer i want to connect to i have dialed into an ISP, so it has an IP all its own.

now the Computer that is on the ISP will soon be on Cable with its own ip

i was told i could do this, now i may have been mis informed, but i have been playing with htis all day and have gotten nowhere.

I can remote desktop form the computer on the LAN to the computer on the ISP but thats it.

i just want to find a way to put the computer on the LAN on my home network so i can access the files on it, i was told the way to do this was to set up a VPN.

now im very computer literate, but i dont have a whole lot of experience with this.

okay, gotcha... Now let me assume that you can reach FROM the HOME computer TO the OFFICE computer without any problems (just making sure because of the firewall you mentioned). Now all you got to do is do enable IPSEC VPN connection between both these computers and this is done by looking into the link below;

There is a lot of junk in there but you will find the information you need there.

Cheers,
Rajesh
