Hi I have a question about bandwidth when using a vpn. I have made a vpn and connected to it fine. I thought that when you connect to a vpn you use the bandwidth from the host of the vpn. I have a bandwidth monitor and it records internet bandwidth usage. Why is it that when I transfer files over the vpn that the bandwidth is recorded like those files were downloaded over the internet? Is there a way that I can transfer files over my vpn by using network bandwidth and not internet bandwidth?

The thing is, the internet I am using now has bandwidth restrictions. What I want to do is connect to the vpn I made and use the bandwidth from the host computer's ISP on my computer thats I am using. Is that possible?

You can't use more bandwidth than you have. Connecting via your 768K DSL to your company's DS3 doesn't increase your DSL bandwidth; you're always limited to the lowest link speed between you and whatever you're communicating with.

The only way to to what you want is to connect to a server at work via SSH, RDC, or whatever and launch the download from there. That will be faster, but you still won't have the file on your local computer.
