Hello,
I've put myself in the deep-end and suggested to my boss that could setup a VPN to allow users to access our private network from home......Now I need some advice please.

We have a W2K network of 2 servers connected to an ISDN via a CISCO 801 router. No dedicated firewall.....just this router.

Being an educational establishment, it is now important that some of our teachers must access the servers from home.

To set up VPN, what type of hardware is needed? DO we need a dedicated firewall that runs VPN or can we use the VPN support from the W2K server? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

Monty

You can use WIN2k as a RAS/VPN server, but explain more about the ISDN lines first, it could turn into a costly escapade!

We have an ISDN line connected to our ISP. It is a 64K line, one channel. Currently it is only connected for 8 hours a day, so we would obviously need to upgrade to a connection that is on say 25hrs a day i.e. ADSL.

If the W2K server is used as a VPN server, could I use one of our existing servers or do I need a dedicated server between our ISP connection and the network? We currently don't have a Firewall.

Regards,.
Monty
