VPN attempts to connect when browsing using ie6

Hi

I have a VPN connection (not dial up) on my home computer to access my work. I am having a problem in that when I open internet explorer and browse web pages, the VPN tries to connect whenever I click a hyperlink. Internet Explorer is set to never dial a connection in Tools/Internet Options/Connections.

This is a minor inconvenience as I have to delete and recreate the VPN to preserve my sanity when browsing.

This does not happen when using FireFox.

Any ideas are welcome.

Have you checked if IE6 is set to use a proxy server that is on your VPN connected network (same place - connections, then 'lan settings')?

It is not set to use a proxy server.
