I have some basic questions about how VPN and Outlook work together. The setup is: Windows XP SP2, Outlook 2003 through DSL connection. In addition, I have an VPN network that uses the same OUTLOOK. So I have multiple email account in OUTLOOK, no problem.
Recently, our ISP provider told us to change server names (sbcglobal to att) and to move over to SSL ports for both pop3 and smtp. As long as the VPN is up and running, I can not pass the tests with SSL. When I take down VPN everything works fine. Checking the VPN setup, I could not see any ports defined.
I've also noticed that If I exit OUTLOOK normally, it appears down, but the VPN Outlook connection remains and really OUTLOOK is still up and running. Next time I will have to look at the task manager to see how many OUTLOOKS are running.
But the basic question is how much can VPN's that connect to OUTLOOK conflict with your other normal DSL ISP connections
