Hello,
I am having a slight problem with my VPN access. Currently I am using a Cisco VPN client on a WinXP pro machine with 56k dial up to connect to my work VPN concentrator. My work network is comprised of NT servers and workstations all running latest service pack. The client connects, authenticates and I am able to get an IP address from my work network(cisco systray icon shows work IP) as well as see DNS/WINS addresses (via ipconfig /all) The problem begins when I try to map network resources or use our proxy server. For the proxy server, I did edit my host file to include machine name and IP. I also input the IP into the proxy settings on IE6. I can ping this server fine but not access the net. Should I edited my host file to contain refs to DNS servers?

Now for the network resource isssues. I edited my host file to contain a reference to my BDC. Now I can ping but not connect via net use or through network neighborhood ( map network drive) I have even tried mapping it using my NT username and password which does not work. Should I edit my host file to contain refs to WINS servers?

Before posting here I searched this forum to see if there were any other posts/articles on this problem. Thankfully others have had this problem in the past. I will try some of the techniques mentioned on here. Will editing my lmhost file with refs to proxy, BDC, DNS, WINS and other machines allow me to see them? Is there anything else that I should look at? Thanks in advance for your assistance.

I enabled netbios in the tcp/ip settings and I was able to see network shares! However, I am still having issues with punching through the proxy server. The DNS settings are correct, the proxy server address is in my host file, the DNS search order is correct and the IP is configured within IE6! I also checked a reg key and it was there correctly. Any ideas as to why it will not connect? Could it be a time-out issue due to slow 56k connection speed? Thanks for the help!
