VPN - ADVANCED SETTING (VPN BETWEEN TWO LINKSYS BEFVP41 VPN ROUTERS)

I’m making the configuration of a VPN, between two LINKSYS BEFVP41 VPN ROUTERS.
In the VPN menu of the router you find the option “Advanced Setting”
With the following fields

PHASE1
OPERATION MODE: MAIN O AGGRESSIVE
PROPOSAL

PHASE2
PROPOSAL

OTHER SETTING

As far I know the most secure operation mode is main, and both fields must be configured in the same way at both extremes of the VPN, if someone has more information regarding this advanced config?
Specifically I want to know what “operation mode” is more appropriate.
And regarding “other settings” I’ll listen any hint you have.

I have a few of these routers set up on Avaya IP Offices. I have never touced the "advanced" tab at all.
