How do i get to see the correct available space on my volume on some workstations it displays the correct figure but on some it give no available space

There's not enough information. Tell me about the configurations of the workstations that are giving you the problems of the wrong volume information.
I'm looking for the size of your server volume drive, the operating systems on your workstations that's giving you the problem, and what you have loaded in the network setup.

There's enough info for me to try and help. Windows Explorer always has inconsistencies reporting volume sizes. This can be caused by things such as volume size, block size, and mainly if compression is loaded on the volume. You also have to take into account that the older operating systems will only recognise the first 2Gb of the volume.

Anyway, the best way of finding out is to run a DOS command prompt, map a drive (or go to the drive) to the the volume, and run the following command:

NDIR /VOL

If you wish to get the info of a subdirectory (eg: SYS:pUBLIC), CD into that directory and use the following command:

NDIR /SPA

You can also get the correct details from the volume object in NWAdmin, and MONITOR.NLM and SERVMAN.NLM from the server console. -----------------------------------------------------
