hi,
i am migrating users from our netware 4.11 server to windows 2000. all of the users data has been moved over, but users still find their way back to the novell server. i want to dismount all volumes except for SYS:. if i do so, then need to restore the other volumes for whatever reason...will i have lost that data?

please advise.

Hi

How do they "find thier way back"? is there a drive mapping or something?
I'm not sure what you mean by "restore the other volumes" do you mean re- mount them? if so, you should be able to mount and dismount volumes (except sys of course) at will without losing data.

The sys volume is mounted when the server starts up. The autoexec.ncf file probably has a "mount all" or "mount volumename" statement somewhere. All you need to do is remove the mount line and when the server starts up the volumes will not be mounted. To mount the volumes later on all you need to do is type "mount volumename" at the server console. When you are done with the volume all you need to do is type "dismount volumename" at the console to dismount the volume.
