I have concerns about a system re-configuration project. I'm running AIX 4.1.5, and have 10 fixed disks, each having their own volume group.(mirroring problem) The disks vary in size (one 2.2gig, seven 4.5gig and two 17.6gig). I want to set this up as 2 volume groups, rootvg and oraclevg. Here is my projected VG layout.

rootvg (PP size 8meg)
one 4.5gig for OS
another 4.5gig mirrored

oraclevg (PP size 16meg)
one 2.2gig
five 4.5gig
two 17.6gig (for mirroring)

My concern is the PP sizes and max LP for a logical volume for the oraclevg.
Do I have to change the PP size for the smaller drives to 16 meg, size down the PP size from 32 to 16 for the 17.6gig drives, and then extend the max LP's for the 17.6gig drives(logical volumes) from 512 to 1024? Or is there a better way?

Thanks in advance.

The oraclevg needs to me 32MB PP's because of the 1016 PP limitation - if you take standard AIX defaults. You 17.6GB drives require over 1100 PP's.

You can change this with the "-t" option of chvg. This will allow more PP's per disk.

If you are putting all of these in the same VG, they all need to have the same PP size.

Bill.
