I hope that someone might point me in the right direction.

We have just installed a new core network (HP ProCurve 5308 with 26xx edge switches) and an Avaya VoIP solution (media gateways and new 4610 and 4620 handsets)

The problem that we are experiencing is fluctuations in volume levels, this can go from very quite to loud. According to HP Procurve manager the network bandwidth being used is minimal.

The Voice and Data are on seperate VLANS, but we are using the phones as a switch (network point to phone to PC) also we have a DAS to ISDN30 converter )

Any ideas or pointer would be great.

Is this during calls it varies or 1 call may be loud, the second quiet?
I'm not familar with the kit you said, but try looking at the following.

First up is it for a certain type of call (Inbound, outbound, IP-IP internal?). This would narrow it down a little.
Sometimes Silence suppresion can do some oddities. if it's on, turn it off.
Check Codecs being used. You may be using 1 for one type of call, another for another. For example you may be using 729 for inbound yet 711 for outbound.
