Volume control on the 7208 set of the BCM

We recently installed a BCM450. My understanding is it is running at its latest patch levels.

After installation we had a number of employees using 7208 sets complaining about the call volume being to low, and having to increase the volume during each call. I changed to "use set volume" in Telephony --> Global Settings --> Feature Settings.

That worked for a majority of the 7208 sets. For others it did not, they indicated they still had to adjust the sets volume on each call.

It turns out the sets still having a problem are not the same as the working units. If one looks at the front of the sets they both look like your standard M7208 set. They both have that more "square" appearance of the M7208 vs the more "rounded" profile of the T7208. The T7208 more closely resembles the T7316E sets we also installed.

On the problem sets there is no identifying labels or markers, but what one does notice is on the problem sets the line/handset/headset ports on the base of the phone are arranged vertically. On the M7208 sets that are operating correctly the line/handset/headset ports are arranged horizontally to the base.

I talked to our vendor. They were not aware of any sub-releases of M7208 sets on which the receive volume feature did not work.

Question 1: Does anyone have any insights on this issue ?

As a default strategy I would like to consider going back to using the system volume setting on the BCM. Most users found the default system volume to low

Question 2: can you adjust the system receiver volume ?

One thing I found about the M7208 sets, if you crank the volume all the way they can go... once you hang up the handset and then use the handset again the volume defaults.

RESOLUTION: If you crank the volume all the way as loud as it can go, then press once back (lower volume) the volume remains at that level.
The phone defaults to a common volume level once the phone is maxed out to protect the next person that uses the phone.

there is a system setting under feature settings I believe off memory

it is set volume: and the options are system or set (I think off memory its been a bit)

check there

The phones with the ports arranged vertically are of an older vintage.

If my memory serves me, I believe there was a point in the phone version history where certain settings in the BCM were not compatible with the with these older phones.

There is a really old version with the vertical connections( I believe they still say Meridian on them) and there are 2 series of M7208 with horizontal connections. I think the newer ones are the only ones that don't have this volume issue.
