I have a couple of bcm's that my customer has decided that he wants to network together via VoIP trunks. Some of the old locations have 3 digit ext's that we can not change, but the rest i can change to 5 digits.

I am currently testing in 2 bcm's running try-n-buy voip trunk keycodes. I have the gateways setup to recieve direct communication, with no MCDN keys. I am able to grab the Voip trunk via a route, but then it gives silences, then a fast busy. If i dial an ext on the remote side it gives me a fast buy.

Any help would be great.

Since you're not using MCDN keycode, make sure that you enter you "received digits" under "public" in your target lines, you need to program one target line per extension.
To troubleshoot this, the best way is to use "CDR client" that comes with the bcm to monitor both sides. That way you can see what you're sending to the other bcm and on the other side what does the far-end bcm receives from you.

How are you connecting the sites?

You don't need MCDN unless your networking Callpilot.

What do you mean you have the gateways setup for direct comm?

we are on a private MPLS network. that being said as i was tring to understand the manuel, i set up the h232 trunk as call signaling:Direct. Then i proceeded to add a gateway for the remote site.

i have had the recieve digits in the prive side per the manual, but i will switch that over to public and try my luck there. thanks

I don't use a gateway
I have all my target lines set to Public, each phone is prime to it's self, public/private DN is that phones DN

doesn't a gateway have to exist for the destination code to work?

I have tried both private and public receive digits, but still no connection to the remote side. I tried to load the CDR client, but i am unfamiliar on how to get it to work. I am currecntly usung BCM monitor to monitor the lines. I see the voip trunks being grabbed and the digits being entered, but that's all she wrote.

Like mentionned earlier "private received digits" field can only be filled when MCDN keycode is used, so your good with public receive digits. When you created your destination code for your voip route did you put "absorb 0"?
To make your cdr work, create yourself a local admin account on your pc and create the same one on the bcm with "cdr" rights. That should work.

You can use the BCM Monitor to see what your sending out.

I put in an IP address and other info for the remote gateway but I don't use a gateway.

i have abandoned the scinario with 3 digit and 5 digit ext's and i am testing my voip trunks on two BCM's with 5 digit's. Everything seems to be working great. So is it not possible to connect 2 offices, one with 3 digit ext's and another with 5?

ok, i figured out what i was doing wrong. it's all working now. i missunderstood how the destination code and destination digits worked. Clear as mud now.

Thanks for the help.
