Good afternoon Tech's, I am having issues with our VOIP Trunk. It seems that our VOIP Trunks are locking up, we have a total of 12 trucks for inter-office dialing.

When I look at the BCM Monitor, under the "Line Monitor" tab, it shows the status as "Active". At the moment 8 out of the 12 trucks are showing Active. They have been active for hours, which is why i say they are stuck.

Any reason or suggestions why this would happen?

most likely you need to patch up the bcm. What version of bcm do you have? You can restart your feps service if you want to reset the trunks.

I am running a BCM 400 with 3.6.

We had this issue last Thursday, then i restarted the BCM and everything went back to normal, but I can not continue to restart the BCM.

Will resetting the Feps require a reboot? Also how I will restart that service?

You should seriously consider an upgrade to 4.0.
3.6 is manufacture discontinued.
Plus, it runs on an embedded version of Win NT, also discontinued.
Basically, you won't see any more patches or improvements for either.

That said, on 3.6 you cannot access the FEPS service.
But, you can stop/start the gateway.
Easiest way ...
Log into Unified Manager Configuration.
Highlight System.
Select the Services tab.
Here you'll see the H323 and SIP gateways.
Assuming you use H323, click the name VOIP H323 Gateway, then right click and choose Modify ... or use the Configuration drop down at the top to choose Modify.
Stop it. Save it. Start it and save it.

The long term fix is to apply patches or upgrade.
Until then, this will be a band-aid.

Thank you SupportDude and ITBCMGUY. Really appricate the help and band-aid. I will try band-aid shortly.

Do you know any reason why the trucks stay stuck on Active? Any known cause of this?

There were several issues with VoIP.
I think the last one Nortel found on 3.6 was an issue where outgoing calls which were released before the far end answers causes a VoIP trunk to lock up and become unusable . The root cause lies with the VoIP trunk release protocol.

Keeping your patches current is very important.

Glad to help!

Ok, I am going to perform the patches on Wednesday.

How would I restart the FEPS on the 4.0 platform?

Also noticed that the POWER LED Status Light on the Unified Messager was Red. I am not sure if this is part of the reason. Why would it go Red, the BCM never went down per my knowledge.

On 4.0 you have access to a list of Services.
FEPS is listed as a service.

Red power LED on a 3.6 isn't good.
It could be indicative of several different problems.
Are you running redundant power supplies?

I would suggest getting all the patches in first.
It may clear any issues not related to the power supply that could cause the red LED.
If its still on after the patch install, you got another problem to troubleshoot.

Alright, the trucks are fine now after the reboot of the BCM but i am sure they will get stuck again. But tomorrow i have scheduled for the updates.

Actually the Red Power Light is on our BCM 400 running 4.0, which is the other side of the VOIP Trunk.

But again Thank you for all the help, greatly appreciated.

ahhhhh....
On a 4.0 the red power LED comes on with a critical alarm.
Access the BCM, go to the Administration tab. Expand the first folder and select Alarms.
At the bottom of the alarm panel you'll have an option to reset LED's.
Click the button and it will set the power LED back to green.
Then check your alarms to see what caused the critical.
