voip trunk calls quality

I have two locations that are connected using the voip trunks. The voice quality is greate when calling between location when dailing from internal phones. I have configured the unit to direct operator calls to be directed over the voip trunks, to allow for only one operator for the two locations. I have this working but!! When the call is made the operator hear an echo on her end. The outside caller does not hear tis echo. What compression code would be best fro this setup.

Depends on the bandwith of your internet connection, does your provider support qos. If you bandwith is high enough then then best codec is G711.

Let's say the VM is in site a. A call comes in to site a and is directed to a call on site b. The caller breaks out and the call goes back to site a. If allow direct media path is unchecked, the call will sound like crap because it is, for lack of a better term, getting compressed twice and using more system resources that necessary. Make sure allow direct media path is checked in both systems for that IP trunk. I know the above from experience.
 
I do have Direcct media path checked. thank for the info., My configuration is g723 Voip Silence Supp is checked, Enale Fast start checked, Out of Band DTMF checked, Allow direct emdia checked. I have changed to g711alaw and get the same echo .

Don't use g723, use g729 or g711 !!!
Silent supppres needs to be unchecked
If nobody talks you do not hear anything and it is like there is no connection
You do not need fast start, this is for non avaya equiptment
If the echo is just a little bit yo ucoul; try to play with the gain or the vcm options in the system tab
