Hello all, we have recently changed our LD T-1 to a voip circuit and recently started having trouble with LD faxes. I have seen no problem with any local faxes, just LD. some of them will go through but most of the time we have problems like the modems cannot connect tnen the line will drop and the fax will give a poor line condition error. I am not sure but it seems to be due to the VOIP. if this is the case is there a solution other than replacing the line with a POTS line or am i looking in the wrong direction?

It sounds like your carrier isnot providing a quality voice connection for you. Possibly a QoS issue. I have heard about problems with modems and faxes not working on VoIP scenarios because of latency and line noise. They are very sensitive to this stuff. Other than getting your carrier to own up to the problem, a POTS line may be the only alternative.

voip may have been a little rushed into service.. about 40 percent of our customers that went voip have switched back to tdm for pstn service.. on your fax machine try, faxa in cls, if it does not help, change it back because it may cause other problems... usually just buying extra bandwidth will be enough, but then there goes the cost savings that usually prompted the change.. even in the ip world, no matter what the saleman said, you not going to get something for nothing
