We're testing out a voip 'softphone'.
We have
1. setup licenses.
2.Installed VCM card
3.Created a 'dummy' extension and entered the MAC address of machine
4.created a testuser pointing at the dummy extension.
5.Enabled voip on the IPPro config page on machine in question.

We can: dial other internal extensions(no ringing is heard from the VOIp extension. There is some delay before the audio stream starts.(even with faststart ticked) The quality is not so good. Latency on our network doesn't seem to be an issue from some calculations we've done.

We cannot:
1. Pick up incoming calls to the VOIP extension. Even though we can hang up a call that hasn't been picked up. We hit enter or click the pickup call button and we continue to get the ringtone.

We use the XP2 firewall which has program exceptions set by group policy. I have added in iClaritySvr.exe as a program to allow to the subnet but the firewall keeps indicating that Avaya Phone Manager VoIP Server is being blocked. There are no other executables that could be unblocked in the Avaya folder. Not even sure if this is the problem.

I've worked it out. have managed to set iClaritysvr.exe as prog exeception. I had the wrong path in GP.
Also had not enabled fast start on both iPPro and manager.

However, I can only pick up the call after two rings, which is very annoying. It seems to take about 2-3 seconds to actually pick up the call.
There must be some serious delay somewhere.
Does this imply that we should be running the VOIP traffic on a separate virtual subnet? We're using cisco switches so they have QoS in built. Not sure if that is where the delay is.
there is a noticeable delay in speech too.
O/wise, quality is fine.
the delay is surprising as ping tests don't indicate that the latency is what the VOIP traffic is experiencing.
TIA

Test it after hours with a separate switch, or unplug the ip office from the network and plug the pc directly into the ip office. This should eliminate a few things.

Hi,
I thought that we may need to go Vlan. We've actually managed to get the extension working quote well now--tweaked the headset setup. We're using a plantronics Persono DSP headset.
However, there is sometimes a noticeable lag. Not always, just sometimes.
Thanks
