anybody got it and how is it working / does it work "norstar voip gateway" any feedback would be appreciated...looking for a norstar to vodavi hook up and under impression its just a converter to analog so anything that takes analog trunks would be fine?

Nortel VoIP gateway works well. You are right it just converts to analogue lines. Nothing special. Just point the VoIP trunks at another gateway (we have used ITG, BCM and another Nortel VoIP gateway)using destination digits and IP address and it works.
Programming with cross-over cable or computer on same subnet works for us. (Although that may be a function of our WAN / LAN configuration).
Good luck

Pat,
Heard today that a BCM/Norstar M1 set up works well with one of the gateways at the Norstar site. Minor glitch when Norstar calls M1 for 1st time in a 15 minute period. RDB problem? Don't know. Not my sites.

Cheers

i dont think customer would have a problem with any tech glitches.. he needs a solution for norstar to vodavi and the far end vodavi doesnt take T1's so they have an existing data T and we need a solution for a Tie line with 2 channels from naples florida to norstar in NYC already have span with 4 channels voice 20 channels data from upstate NY "option 61c" to norstar in nyc..customer said money not an object sales person didnt listen and set them up with a primitive solution needing a direct connection into the vodavi ...key here is money wasnt an issue ...they said we love new technology....sales again screws me....
and PS if anybody is interested we as a company did another reog in last 2 weeks lotsa and lotsa layoffs... my 15 yr old could do it better.... sorry i am ranting

Arr;
That is either another instance of my problem or someone is describing my problem.
1st call does not setup well, even with jitter settings to max. Next call is good and conversation is clear.
Nortel VoIP gateway to BCM always works. M1 to Nortel VoIP gateway always works well.
Any thoughts?

Cheeses,
If this IS your problem, I got it from your Eqpt source with whom I communicate closely. He is VERY discreet never revealing who is being discussed. We did talk about it. He thinks the RDB in the M1, I thought that the auto routine maintenance loads, 32/45 should be checked for a parameter which shuts down/sleeps a function when not used. The key would be the time involved at 900 seconds.
I'm just an M1 dabbler and often wrong about what makes that machine tick. But if you ever sort it out, I would like to know what the solution was.

Arr;
No worries about names and such.
I would expect every vendor to utilize whatever resources they had available to solve problems.
This forum is a very good example of how problems can be solved. We can not be experts at everything and experience with equipment and solutions to problems can be hard to obtain anywhere else.
I have used many of your tips in setting up equipment and have not been steered down the wrong road.
Thanks for your help.
I let you know regarding the M1 after I have a chance to get on it again.

the VoIP gateway is very similar to a modem - you need 2 of them one at the transmitting end and one at the receiver.

It is a nortel branded product - interfaces to the norstar using Ls/DS card. between the Gateways IP is the transport
(it can work with any other PBXs LS/DS card equivalent and any other gateway - but NOrtel does NOT support that)

Guys the Cat's meow has to be the RAD VMux 110 or 2100.
It is a T1 to IP gateway supporting PRI and transparent CCS.
This allows an M1 or Norstar or any other vendors switch to send propietary signaling out of a T1 card across an IP network and back into a T1 card. This would support MCDN etc...
It compresses each T1 span into 128 kbps.
The 110 supports a single DTI card and the 2100 supports 16 DTI cards.

If you are looking for a gateway that is vendor independant that does not require the passing of propietary signaling then you should look at the Mulitech MultiVoIP products or the Audiocodes products. They each support multiple interface types and IP applications.
