We recently bought an Avaya IP Office setup, we've come to find that a lot of the promised features are not actually out and the product is extrmeely beta. Our vendor has agreed to swap out our IP Office for a Merlin.

My question is as follows, we where hoping to use some of the VoIP (5 phones or so) with the Avaya IP Office, our vendor told us that with the Merlin we can use an IP Gateway on the phone.

Anyone have any experience with these? Any things I should be aware of with them? How well do they scale up?

Thanks a lot.

You can do it well on a Magix. There are various gateways, and the only trick is to match up the gateway interface with the Magix. An E&M 400 card or 100 DCD card on the MAgix are typical. You would use a 400 E&M to get 4 IP enabled trunks over to a gateway, (Multitech works well), and pay attention to the wiring between the MAgix and your gateway, set up a qos-enabled, and the rest is IP. Voice mail will probably be a hassle because of quality loss from teh multiple digitizations, and if your network will really deliver what it is supposed to in the way of good latency and jitter numbers, you'll do fine.
