MM 5.2 SP8.4, 1 MAS, 1 MSS, 1077 licensed users and at capcity now. Couple of days ago we started hearing please wait in the TUI and message play back would pause in the message. DOes not lose the any of the message when it continues and with rewind or replay the pauses are gone or in different parts of the message. No PERF 1 logs yet about user delays but some events in the Windows app event log about MWI cant connect to the voice server and MM Performance counter server cannot see the MAS.
I am a network person too and have sniffed the public interfaces to the MAS and MSS and there is nothing unusual there. The console interface on the MAS is slugish and pauses a lot. Like click on Start and it can take 5+ second the show the menu.

THis really seems like a problem in the MAS. Ran virus scanners and found nothing. We have run out of licenses before and did not see any issues like this.

I am installing SP13 this weekend but do not really expect it to fix any of these problems.

Has anyone seen anything like this?

If you look at the task manager what is using all of the CPU ? or memory ? What antivirus are you running ? is the on access scan turned on in it? if it is turn it off. Has the MAS been rebooted in the last month or so ?

You are right in that it is a MAS issue but it also sounds like some 3rd party software not native to MM that may be causing the issue. Cant say for sure unless i look at it. or you can post some screen shots or logs.

Ken, thanks for being there so much.

I checked the MAS out as a server/PC. Looked at task manager for CPU usage, memory usage and didn't see anything. Then I checked the public network side and saw very minimal utilization. I tried to get info on the usage on the private network side. I couldn't sniff it but the interface stats didn't seem bad. That's when I did the virus scans thinking there might be a virus hiding its activity. Still nothing. Now I am going for the service packs. The only thing that "has changed" is that we are out of licenses, again.

It seems like the kind of thing that goes on in a computer when a process fails trying to do something and has to time out before things can to continue.

I have seen threads that might have had your input that discussed a DOC process and something called vvsts and wsts. Can you explain what those processes are?

Thanks again

Richard

Vivat is what the mss calls mwi but none of them run on the mas.

How much memory is being used ? If it is more than 1 gig the I would stop the mas service and start it back up

Ken,

There are a lot of error event logs about failed to find credentials, and others for victory server n:mss1. Where n is a number. If I look at VMSC security/message server admin there are message servers showing up on their own. The one that I know should be there is MSS1 but as I watch new ones show up with a number:mss1. None of them have credentials defined and as I click around I get warnings that LDAP and IMAP4 need to be defined. I dont know if this has something to do with the Avaya outlook client or what. I thought it attached to the MSS. I dont see these same error logs before the problems started

I did find some other events probably from the beginning of the problem. There are several events about failed to examine mailbox for mailbox xxxxxx/INBOX on Victory Message Server mss1, protocol IMAP4(Append failed, No space available to process request.

After a few of those there are multiple logs about the email server in MSS1 going down and up.

Any idea what SPACE AVAILABLE it is talking about? Disks look ok.

Sorry I think the no space available was that the extension did not have a mailbox.

So now I am focusing on the mss' that are adding to the MAS config automatically. Is it normal?

did you start getting the errors before or after you installed SP 13 ?

I have not run into the error about space unless the MSS was running out of it. It sounds like you have some passwords that don't match between the MAS and the MSS. But are you getting them on both MAS's or just one ?

i don't know what you mean by

. The one that I know should be there is MSS1 but as I watch new ones show up with a number:mss1. None of them have credentials defined and as I click around I get warnings that LDAP and IMAP4 need to be defined.

you should see in the top box Message Servers only one MSS! and nothing else if you see more than one you have a problem.

Then on the bottom window you should see credentials
LDAP *****
IMAP4 *****
IMAPI *****
FAX *****

Something has changed in the config somewhere.

Yes I had the errors before SP13. I have seen some threads that mention rebuilding/recovering data bases or front end data. I do not see any tools for that.

How do these functions/passwords match to the one in the MSS? I found a thread that said the VVSTS in trusted servers is the IMAPI. I am not using MBM or FAX. Not sure which one should match the MAS in trusted servers. Then there is the separate LDAP password reset and the IMAP4 TUI under system administration. That one may be intuitive but I dont want to guess.

LDAP *****
IMAP4 *****
IMAPI *****
FAX *****

I have not been able to get the attachment to work but the message server screen has 22 MSS' right now. Only one is convfigured and after a boot it starts with that one but adds more while you watch.

If it is showing that many MSS's for message servers that tells me it does not know where to find the message server.

At this point i don't think i could be of any more help with out access to the system. it may be a simple fix but it is hard for me to really tell without seeing it.

Not really knowing the history i assume you have been working on this yourself ? with out the help of a BP or Avaya? and if it keeps adding to the message server field the system, has something wrong at the base level.

This all started when and after what happened ?

So Ken did I read in one of your posts that you are in the Dallas area?

Not sure how you want to contact me the last time I put out an email address I got bitch slapped by the site admin.

If you have a 2.0 MM Planning form section "S3400 family password table" it shows the trusted servers and the fax mailbox password in the Installation guide.
Basically the LDAP, IMAPI are the trusted server passwords for the MAS (LDAP) and the VVSTS (IMAPI). The IMAP4 relates to the System Administration, IMAP4 password. The Fax password relates to the mailbox on the MSS. All these are seen in the VMSC on the MAS.

The 2.0 Planning form basically states:
MSS calls it MAS calls it
Trusted Server mas#name LDAP
Trusted Server VVSTS IMAPI
IMAP4 TUI IMAP4
FAX mailbox password FAX

Hope this helps
