I'm trying to setup voicemail to email on our existing IP Office running 3.2 with Voicemail Pro, but am not having much luck. Since there are so many ways to set this up could someone clarify a few things for me?

I'm understand MAPI and SMTP, but is there any difference in capabilities between the two setups here? Can I send a WAV file of the voicemail using either method?

It seems that SMTP would be preferred if you have access to a local mail server available that you can relay off of. Do I have to install the service as a user called Voicemail or does that really matter?

Thanks...

It really depends on the email server you are connecting to. You will have to change the email type in VM PRO to what ever you are using. then you will need to go into the control panel and set up the voicemail to email settings. There is an IP Office Icon in the control panel. I do not know of any differance between MAPI and SMTP. i have always used SMTP because seems like a pain to get going.

SMTP is the way to go
you require:-

IP address of the Mail server to sent mail (an internet mail server CAN be used).
a Valid e-mail account to send mail from.

depending on server cnfiguration you may also require username & password to connect to the above account.

configureing VM pro to use SMTP is far easier than MAPI & wont get broken the first time Microsoft issue an update patch!
