This has happened on 3 separate occasions in the last 2 weeks, all before 8 in the morning. We have a Merlin Magix with Merlin Messaging 3.?. We have had it for about a year and 1/2. The messaging system stops working-no auto-attendant, no program access. I ran an error log through WinSPM before resetting the system and there were no errors. We have two module boxes. I shut off the box that contains the messaging and T-1 first, then the POTS box. I then restarted the POTS box and then restarted the messaging and T-1 box. Everything came back up. I have also noticed that WinSPM Quick Access is not always pulling all the information and even the writing in the WinSPM standard access is changing from small writing sometimes, to the normal font and sometimes not all of options are displayed. All this has started since the first crash. This time there was a clicking noise from the messaging box sort of like a solenoid trying to start. We are beginning to think that we may have a bad board but why has it not happened at other times of the day-only in the we hours of the morning? I have info on testing different boards-will this tell me if a board is going bad? Should I turn the system off, remove the boards and then reseat them? Nothing feels loose. TIA for any help ad I am going to have to do something soon.

Sounds like the hard drive is failing in the voice messaging module. Better hope you have a backup. If not you will have to reprogram the replacement module from scratch.

Thanks for your prompt reply. How do I back the hard drive up? There is the standard backup card in the system. Is that enough?

TIA again.

If you have the GUI/LAN administration software for your Messging system - connect via the LAN to the Messaging system - you can back-up much more information to the PC hard drive - including mailboxes, messages, announcements, selector codes, etc. - than you can to the little port card. The only moving part in the voice mail system is the hard drive - so if you are hearing a "clicking" sound - it is probably a failing hard drive as mentioned before. Is the system under warranty?

Thanks again. We have found a local vendor and are deciding whether to get a 4.0 board or try to hold out (if we can) for the 5.0 release of Merlin Messaging. Has anyone heard what any of the upgrades might include? TIA again for all the help.
