Serious question:

Client is unhappy with the speed of retrieving messages. Preview mode is fine but you have to hit 9 and 2 everytime...anyway to permanently speed up the message retrieval?

Also, when he is on the phone and the AA transfers a call to his extension it rings for a split second and then the set number of rings (3) it normally does and then goes to voicemail. Is there a way to tell it to go STRAIGHT to voicemail when he is on the phone?

Thanks ..

9 and 2"?? It's 2 to get messages, 0 to listen, # for the next message, 0 to play that one, lather--rinse--repeat.

You would have to hit DND when on the phone to send additional calls to VM immediatly.

Right, and you don't have to listen to the prompts, just hammer the buttons.

9 goes to preview mode...it was in the manual...then 2 then 0 to listen to messages immediately...

he's getting the hang of it...

Hi cubla,
Is the vm unit on the internal network? If so, he can look at the list and double click the important ones. Enter the extension he's at and it will play through the phone. The FF and REW are more convenient to use. My customers love it. I'm sure it's just the cool factor except for a few.
All they need to do is point the browser to the iP of the vm unit and log in. They can't be in on the phone (to their vm) when they do this. One log in at a time rule per mailbox.

is there a way that from his ext he does not have to type his password...i know he can hit # and then it asks for his password...he hates this!!

Any ideas?

I have a few customers like this. You can't win.

Explain to the customer that if he doesn't wish to do this (not that he has a choice, the password cannot be turned off), his voicemail would be completely open to anyone. No security at all. I have an AVT where there were no passwords. Man, was it abused. Now it's locked down.

No offense, but it's time for your customer to grow up.

hahahaa...

this is one guy...that gets what he wants...regardless.

but i agree!

I had a guy that owned the company didnt want his voicemail passworded then would cal and complain that employees where getting into his voicemail (not a partner system, but one that allowed passwords to be turned off )

he wanted the security of a password without the effort of entering one

So cubla,
What do you think he'll say when told he can't have his way? Offer one of the bigger vm systems if you can find one that allows no password. AVST might.

.....And the fun is just beginning. [wink]

actually i'm letting him deal with it. he hasn't complained in a couple of days so I'm hoping he's ok.

I posted another question...you guys might have an answer...when you hit 9 a bunch of times during the messages everything speeds up a great deal...

anyway to make this permanent?

no but i can considering it does...!

haha...

you know i've been managing computers and networks for 10 years...for many different clients. what i'm determining about phones is the lack of customization. we were always confident that no matter what the client wanted his computer or application to do...we could find or make a solution. with phones, what you get is what you get...

Hi cubla,
Actually I can't agree with you. Within it's bounds the Partner is very flexible.

The Magix is semiflexible and a bit of a pain. You have to fake it out almost always.

The iP office is so flexible, it's scary. It will not operate at all if you are not trained as there is no framework at all out of the box.

The Eon products are similar to this with some framework. More flexible than almost anything else.

So you see, the Partner is both easy to program and reasonably flexible. You wouldn't want to be able to do anything at this price point. It's also nice that it works when "stupid" out of the box.

-Chris

haha...i bet the IP office would be fun...I need to get into that...

Hi cubla,
There are three prereq courses - not a walk in the park. The final course I took was only 1 week, could have/should have been 2 weeks. Most the people there were not having an easy time - the network people learned to appreciate that phone guys do have to know a great deal. My boss has not been able to pass the prereq's yet.

But it is a fun switch. I need to take one home and practice some more. That and get use to the new software.
