Hi there,

I'm having a problem with the .wav-files in Voicemail Pro. A customer of mine asked me if there was a way to lower the volume/output of the .wavs because in his case they are way louder than when you are talking to an actual person.

Now my first guess was to set the output of the .wavs lower by using a program like Audacity. After saving the .wavs the volume was indeed lower (as I listened to them on my laptop) but as soon as I copied the "quieter" files to VM:p and listened to them via phone they were as loud as before.

The really funny/strange thing about this is that after listening to the files once via phone VM:p overwrote the files with the same volume level as they were before (I listened to them once more on my laptop - they were actually louder than before I copied them to VM:p [even the filesize changed]).

I get that VM:p tries to adjust the volume of all .wavs and that makes sense to me, but now I see no way for me to solve my customers problem.

Is there a setting in VM:p to set the global volume? Because I see no other way as VM:p adjusts the volume of the .wavs no matter how loud or quiet they are in the first place...

Thanks in advance for your help!

not sure about this problem but you can set the recordings level in the analog line properties (if you have analog lines) but by default they are set to low already.
Vm pro has no volume settings

Nope, I'm not using analog lines so nothing to configure there. If I remember correctly the last time I had this problem I simply lowered the volume of the .wavs and it worked.

Not sure if this is a bug or perhaps an new "feature" I don't know about. Would be really great if you guys could help me with this or even test the whole thing yourself and give me your feedback as I have no clue what I could do to fix this problem.

Thx in advance for any feedback!

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Avaya\Media Services\Directories > SignalNormalisation this setting effects the volume of VM Pro, it's at 18 by default and if you raise it it gets louder lower quieter, BUT that is the volume of everything not just .wav files.

It has been mentioned before that as well as lowering the volume of the .wav you also need to mormalise it (also using audacity or similar)then it will work :)

I just tested amriddle01's suggestion with normalize and once again on my laptop the soundfiles are very different in volume but when I copy them to VM:p (....\IP Office\Voicemail Pro\VM\WAVS) and call the number the .wav is set to once again it is as loud as before...

It seems to me that VM:p sets the output of all .wavs to a certain level no matter what the original volume of the .wav is^^

Get a lead and create a loop between your speaker and mic ports on your pc (so you are recording your own output) then use VM Pro client to record the .wav (by playing it) and simply adjust the volume on your pc output until you get a file that sounds right, it may be that is is doing this as it knows it's an imported file....who knows :)

Thanks for the tipp but that's no option for me as I have somewhat of a combined headset port, not two individual ones..

But another thing I just recognised as I was testing: When I record a soundfile via telephone and directly after that listen to it (again via VM:p/telephone) the volume is ok - but as soon as I save this recorded soundfile/the config and call the voicemail it's way louder than before...

The way I see it VM:p sets the volume to a certain level no matter what the original input is (pre-recorded, recorded via phone etc...)

Can anyone else test/confirm that? VM:p version is 8.0 (1009)

last time I played with the normalization it started to get all crackly and fuzzy on my recordings (was in Release 6 or so) that's why I never touched it again and completely forgot.
You could try and change the format to mp3 and back to wav maybe that has an effect that will be beneficial and not raise the volume again. Just brainstorming here.

@Westi: Good idea but as I have said before the files are indeed quieter after I lower the volume in audacity. Even after copying them to VM:p and listening to them via VM:p Client over a phone the volume is ok. Only if I call the extension I saved the .wav for the volume is back up at the "standard" level.
