Here'a new one (and I've not yet had a return call from tech support):

User has a VM left for her, and when she listens to it she hears another user's outgoing greeting recorded on top of the last part of the incoming VM that she received.

Thankfully the VM was not deleted so I have a copy of the wav file that I can send to Avaya tech.

2.1.27 with 2.1.14 VMPro
analog trunks
digital stations

Anyone else experience such a thing?

New one by me, man.

Does this happen to this user every time a vm is left? Is it always the same user? Is it always the same other users greeting?

First and only time so far. I know I'll hear from them ASAP if it happens again.

I've not been able to imagine a scenario wherein the receptionist or anyone else could cause such a thing to happen by some user error.

most unusual.........

Ahh, a one off. Explain to the customer that solar flare activity was unusually high at the time the problem happened, that it was disrupting global communications so they don't have to feel all alone.

You need to get a hold of the person who left the message to hear if they heard the other greeting whilst (nice use of whilst in a sentence, reading to many ip office doc's)leaving the message. If they did the odds are the receptionist probably conferenced to calls together. both were direct to voicemail transfers. Did the person who's greeting was heard during the message get any strange messages. Maybe a cut off of the original message.

I've seen greetings recorded as messages on occasion, usually after the calling party hookswitch flashed their original call and made a conference call to the second user and when that second person did not answer the caller hungup, initating a conference message in the first persons mailbox, to make a long story short
