Hi,

Do I have to use an application server or can I install VM Pro on a CentOS7 system on its own?

I want to move from an old Windows server so I can upgrade our IPO500 to R11.1.2.

I also want to install ACR on the same server as that's what's on the Windows machine.

Not a massive Linux head, I know how to install ACR on Linux just can't find any docs on VM Pro.

Many thanks!

Deploy the APPS server Virtual Machine, and then create a separate Virtual Machine for the ACR.

It's not supported anyway, but I don't understand why you'd want to kludge through installing VMPro and the other supporting applications while not being a "massive Linux head". The APPS server makes it fairly simple. Plus you get the WebLM Server and all of the other stuff you're likely going to need for 11+. What version are you on now?

We are on R11.0 probably the main thing is that VM Pro used to be able to be installed on a Windows PC. Which for small customers who can't afford a server was pretty handy.

If it can be done then that would fill that gap.

That should not be an issue
All our ipo 500v2 are installed with a separate PC for voicemail pro

Just put the disc or usb in and the software will do all the rest.
Just remember this will wipeout anything on the pc and will create a Linux installation with voicemail pro ,one x portal

2nd the above advice
Eiter a stand alone PC using eh Avaya App server install CD (you cant install cent os & then just ad he IPO software & I am not sure why you would want too) or as a Virtual Machine on a windows PC.
I prefer stand alone but ohthers prefer Windows/VM as they use RDP to the windows server for remote maintanence.
eiher is as good as he other.

@BResource No need for a real server if customer can't afford one or you don't include that in your costs to them.

Take a Windows 10 computer, install the Hyper-V Role, download the APPS server ISO. Create a new Virtual Machine on the Win 10 HyperV that meets the required specs, and there ya go.

Using the scenario of a customer not being able to "afford" a server, or not having the space for one, a ~$500-600 2 year old Dell Optiplex MFF i5-8th gen HEX-Core/32GB/512GB NVMe drive+1TB SSD will have all the power you'd need for that type of customer. It would allow for the APPS server VM, the ACR VM, and allow you as the service provider to have your RMM tool on the Win10 host for easy remote support of both virtual machines and simplified backups/snapshots of the VMs. Same setup as a larger "server", just cheaper and not quite as scalable.

that argumet only holds water if the windows PC hosing the VM is also performing other tasks, otherwise you have bought the PC & paid an unnecessary microsoft licence fee.

PC spec for a Application server is not very demanding

^ the other task would be that it hosts the administration software. We do this all the time. One Windows 10 PC running hyper-v for the app server, works great. Then we throw logmein/teamviewer on the host so we have remote access to the whole lot.

If you are using Hyper-V you can use the VHDX install. Quick and easy.

The last FAQ of the three I posted earlier is a step by step guide.
The first one is a Windows to Linux migration guide.

@IPGuru

Other tasks....like being remotely accessible via your RMM tool for quicker changes/support? Having the management software for the IPO? Way faster HTTP server for the bin files?

Its pretty hard to find a used computer without it already having a Windows license, and I've found that the price of a used machine like that is negligibly different if you do somehow find one without Windows already on it. The value is produced by the near immediate remote support, and not having to have a certain version of Manager/etc... on a laptop that you forgot to charge.

yep if you use RDP to the machine for remote access then it is a sensible option
we prefer to have a vpn where ever possible so have maager & all the other tools local
manager is compatible down to V4 so that should not be an issue in most cases.
& repurposing an old PC is a good idea
what should be avoided is doing this on a pc that is in use elsewhere (I have seen it done on a receptionist PC - disaster!)
