Voicemail not responding / Opt11 1

Hi All,

Our voicemail is not responding anymore. If I press the voicemail key on one of our M3904 I just get a release and try again (I checked several phones). When I try to enter into the voicemail via Procom I dont get the Voicemail login after typing "ax". I tried if the other loads still work and they are fine.

Any advice would be very appreaciated,

Sounds like voicemail is down, try LD 48 STAT AML
Down/Disabled not good. Check front of Voicemail if green led is flashing slowly, probabley Hard drive failure.
You could try rebooting it by powering off voicemail using the power switch on it, not the PSU power trip switch.
But before doing it you MUST LD 48 DIS AML 9, otherwise the PBX will reboot. then once you,ve switched Voicmail off and on LD 48 ENL AML 9 ACMS. Good Luck

So the voicemail is down. I logged a call with our maintenace company to get it fixed, but I would like to understand better whats the problem.

layer two is in auto setup.. layer 7 (application) is down..

but the 1st post is right, a power cycle would usually clean it up

layer 2 is the physical connection and layer 7 is the application layer. For some reason the voicemail is not operational. Could be a bad drive or power supply for the drive more than likely.

Look at the light on the front of the mail is it flashing slowly, 5 sec on 5 sec off? If it is then the application failed to load. We would need to know what the light is doing in order to help. Also if there is a tape in the drive remove it. Sometimes this stops the mail from booting.

Our maintenance company tried to disable/enable the card without success. The green ACT led was slowly flashing, the yellow HDD was constant.+

So they disabled the card again and asked me to push the reset button, again without sucess.

Then they asked me to pull out the card while the pabx was operational (I asked them several times if that couldnt cause a even worse problem, but they denied that). Once I pushed the card back into the slot it booted up correctly and the voicemail now works.

I am still not to happy about the way the issue was solved.

That is the only way to resolve the issue. Barring any hardware defects.

pretty common fix, reseating the card is not unheard of.. if all your ram is used or reserved.. your cpu can't process request.. a soft restart did not clear it. a hard did.. look at it this way.. your dealing with an nt server.. it can not by design, stay up 7/24 forever..

Reseating cards is a fix for alot of issues with Nortel. Get used to it!

I had a similar issue around June. My VM would reset but when the system ran midnight routines it would take down the VM. I finally had to reload the install tape and that took care of it all. But you might want to take a look at the books they are pretty good and have a troubleshooting guide just for those symptoms you mentioned. Hope yours is fixed by a simple reseating.

the proper way to enable the AML is enl aml x acms. In this case I would have disabled it all the way and tried the command above, it usually works!
