Voice to Data in one simple step?

I am from a telephony background and as voice is migrating to data, i feel i need to fully understand the data side of things from the basics up to the advanced stuff including how and what gateways,firewalls,routers,etc are and what their jobs are.

So my question is how do i go about learning all this stuff?

Can you recommend a good book or web source?

Your best be would be to get a couple of books from Amazon, I reccomend the Voice and Data book by Gill Heard.
This will give you idea about Data Networking as well as putting Voice onto it.

You may also want to look at Avaya Uni and get started on your ACA.
