Hi Guys

I am looking at implementing a solution for one of our clients and need help please.

Our client has 2 separate sites around 100m apart and each site has a 2 MB ADSL line connected to the ISP via an ISP-provided router and Cisco PIX 506 firewall. There is a site-to-site VPN set up between the two sites using the PIX as the endpoints.

Our client wishes to use Voice over IP Phones through the VPN, but the phone installers suggest the phone traffic is prioritized in order for the phones to work well.

I know the PIX cannot do QoS and the router is on the internet side of the PIX. The PIX is encrypting traffic so the router on the internet side of the PIX will not be able to do any QoS as the traffic is encrypted at that point.

I guess we could put another router on the inside of the PIX - Does anybody have any storming ideas of how best to achieve this.

Cheers!

One of my customers asked me about this before I installed encrypted links to his remote sites. My response was that delays in the Internet were too variable for voice to work. Once the network was installed he tried it anyway, no prioritisation and it works fine, he is actually using netmeeting but the principle is the same.

On that basis why not give it a try before geting stuck into the real techi issues.

The other point I would make about this is that QoS is only any good if you can control all devices in the end to end path, so your still exposed to delays in the actual Internet anyway.
