We have an Avaya G3xV13 version R013x01.5.642.3 with approx. 1600 users on it now and would like to see what our options are for wireless, voice over IP.

Not too familiar with Avaya G3, but I am would bet they have the option to create a Hybrid PBX, allowing you to slowly roll your phone base over to IP, spreading the cost over months or years even, instead of one large bill.
If you are generally happy with the performance of your existing system, this allows you to keep the existing knowledge base you already have. Talk to your Avaya rep and ask for a quote with options.
If you want to get away from Avaya, Cisco has a good system that will also give the option for wireless IP.
One thing to think about before going to any IP system, make sure your network is sturdy and capable of carrying the extra traffic it will need to support. QOS implementation is a VERY good idea.

One more consideration if you are looking to implement wireless VOIP, you need to make sure your wireless network can handle the QOS and voice VLAN requirements. This is essential to make it work properly. Don’t assume that just because you have wireless LAN that you can implement wireless VOIP.

The sales folks don’t always say this up front.
