Anyone calls our main number and after 4 rings the call goes to voice mail. The caller hears the announcement. But, then the caller is supposed to hear the "beep" to start recording. There is silence and no "beep" and the voice mail system says "good bye" and hangs up.
This problem only seems to be on extension 100 which we use for our receptionist....all incoming calls are directed to ext 100.
As a test, I called the main number and get the voice mail....then transfer the call to my extension (*8 plus ext #) ....the voice mail answers and I get the normal "beep" and a chance to record a message.
I rebooted the voice mail system but the problem continues.
Ideas?
This is a Merlin Messaging system

Have them log-in to the mailbox at x100. Choose option 8 for record mode. It was probably switched to answer-only mode instead of record-mode. Change it back to record mode.

In the extremely remote chance (and I do mean remote) the next step would be to initialize the mailbox. I recently ran into this very situation. The user isn't very technical. Rather than trying to explain things, I had him simply unload his dozens of saved voice mail messages and I then reset his mailbox.
