Partner Mail VS R5 w/2 Port Card

Problem is that a couple of the mailboxes won't go to voice mail. I have reset the system and that cleared up the problem for awhile. Today I pulled all the modules and cleaned the connectors. When I brought it back online one mail box was working but not the other.

Always the same mailboxes with trouble.

What should I do? Replace Proc? Replace Mail? Replace Card?

I noticed there is no grounding wire going to the grounding screw. Will grounding the system help?

What extensions?
Do they have VMS coverage? #310

Ext 18 & Ext 29.

I don't think there is a VMS cover button programmed.

I'll program the button on these two extension. Maybe they can just turn it on when it is not working.

Make sure extension 34 and 35 are the only one assigned in #505 group7.

hopefully these are not assigned in #505 group 7 becasue only the VM ports should be in there

There are only extensions 10-29

the VM ports are 34 and 35 , thats all that should be in group 7

you might want to consider getting a phone tech who understands partner system involved to troubleshoot this for you

The voicemail module counts as 6 extensions. In your case extensions 30 thru 35.
#505 group 7, tells the phone system where the voicemail is.
Since you have a 2port card you are using 2 extensions for voicemail.(extension 34 and 35).
Verify that they are the only extension assigned to group 7 in #505.

The system has been running for years untoughed and now just started having these problems with voice mails. I did not get a chance to verify group 7 yet but I would be really surprised if there was any change in the hunt group since the original program.

Ext 12 and Ext 29 are the ones I am having problems with. After rebooting, voice mail on Ext 12 is working but not 29.

What I think might be happening is that [VMS Cover] is for whatever reson being set to off. I programmed VMS Cover on Ext 12 and told the end user to just hit the VMS Cover button if the light on the button was ever off. If the button shows ON but VMS is not working then I know I have a different problem.

Ext 29 is a 6 button phone. All four programmable buttons are assigned to the four incoming lines so I can't assign a VMS Cover button.

Question: Is there anyway to turn on [VMS Cover] without programming a button to do it?

Is the solution to get a 18 button phone for Ext 29?

I swapped the 6B phone for an 18D phone an programmed the VMS Cover button. Working fine now. Doesn't explain why the VMS Cover would randomly go off but it is a faily old system.

So the problem is that the Partner System from time to time just decides to turn [VMS Cover] off on these two Extensions.

My workaround is to program [VMS Cover] buttons on the phones so the ed users can just turn it back on when they need to.

What would be the most likely long term fix?

Replace the Processor Module or Replace the Voice Mail?

It is a settting that is in the processor, it has nothing to do with the voicemail. I have never seen a Partner system do this but if you want to replace something then replace the processor, but keep the old one just in case that someone is tinkering with the system.

Thanks, I thought the Processor would be the most likely component to replace.

I would suspect the 206E modules. Those have been MFD for several years and component failure can be problematic. I would replace them with a 308EC type. With the Remote Administration software you can access the maintenance tools provided and run diagnostics and reports. That may provide some clues also.
