Hey All, I have a Merlin Messaging card (1.0) in port 8 of my phone system. It's currently in standby mode and not answering calls. I only need to be able to get messages off of the card and written down, it is not a live system. Is there anyway to do this? I am not very knowledgeable about this system, so talk down.... Thanks,

Mike

What system do you have? I assume you meant that the messaging module is in slot 8 of your system. Why is your messaging system in standby mode? Did you remove the port card?

I have a Merlin Legend System. We just replaced this system with another, now this is on my office floor and I'd like to strip the last of the voicemail off of it.

I have the system itself up and running (I can make calls if I put a CO line in, but the VM never came back up.

The only way you can do that - is to hook it back up to the Legend system and set up (in Legend programming) a Voice Mail calling group which contains at least the first voice mail port of the module (or all the VM ports). Then dial in to the VM calling group and the Voice Mail should answer and ask for the voice mail extension you want. Then dial the extension and listen/transcribe your messages. All you need is the processor, a 408 module, an MLS20L and VM module - you can leave the rest of the modules and phones out. Most people use 770 as the VM Calling Group. Make sure it is set to "Integrated Voice Mail" under type.

Well, that answers 1/2 my question, thank you. I am able to access the system with WinSPM (only using standard SPM mode though). How do I do the procedure you outlined (set up (in Legend programming) a Voice Mail calling group which contains at least the first voice mail port of the module (or all the VM ports). Then dial in to the VM calling group and the Voice Mail should answer and ask for the voice mail extension you want.?

How do I set that up in legend programming?

Would restoring from an old backup do the trick? The system was originally set up as 770 being VM.

You could restore from your backup - if you have the all of the modules from the original system in exactly the same slots. That would be easiest. If not - I explained the process in some detail in a posting about a month ago. Check it out.

If 770 is already set up - the only reason the Voice Mail module may not be responding to an intercom call to extension 770 - is if the slot it was in was changed or other modules before it were changed - that would change the VM port numbers in Calling Group 770. So check calling group 770 and make sure the correct port numbers for the voice mail unit are listed as "members".
