I have had several users complain that when listening to their voice mail messages there is about 10 seconds of dead air before the message plays. I have Merlin Messaging 3.0 Any thoughts on this

Thanks in advance

Verify the problem first hand before trying anything else.

I have it has done it on my voice mail as well

Is this on one port or on all ports, verify that as well. I have an issue with a messaging R3 with static on the last 2 ports, but the first 6 are ok. Obviosly that one is a hardware issue. Do you have call screening enabled? Just some more things to look at.

If the MEssaging thinks it is hearing something, it records it.

Thus, low level static could be a problem. (But it is supposed to be filtered out.)

My suggestion would be to make a few test calls with LOW LEVEL messages and see what happens.....

no I do not have call screening enabled. how can I test which ports that this happens on. Make a call to VM and watch which VM LED light up?

You could put an auto dial button on a set for EACH vmail port. Then watch which one answers as you make test calls.

And set the hunt group to circular instead of linear, or you will have trouble getting enough calls into the VM to test the upper ports. Change it back to linear when you are done testing.

ok I was able to test a VM message on each port after some trial and error. Basically I made a few calls and put them on hold until I got the port I wanted and then I left a VM. My messages sounded fine. A few of the messages I made at a low level and those turned out ok as well.

Something else I noticed last night is that I can access the VM over a cross over cable only I am not able to access it over the LAN. I have tried it with several differnet cables, switch ports, and I changed the speeds and duplex of the switch ports as well and I am still not able to connect. jsut very odd

yes I have verifed the ip subnet and gateway and all are fine. it just strange

it has been working with these settings for about 4 months now and one day I was jut unable to connect over the LAN

ok changed it back to the defauly ip info and then changed it to my lan info and it worked.

Was something on your network causing a conflict with the static Ip of the messaging. In other words, ifyou have a DHCP server, and it assigned a new printer the IP address of 192.168.1.124 and that was the ip of the messaging, wouldn't that cause the conflict? Again, I am a novice, and I stress the word novice IT guy, just throwing out a possible reason.

yeah I though of that but even when I changed the IP to one that I knew was not in use I has the same issue. it works now oh well.

thanks for everyones help
