We have a Merlin Magix with 4412D+ handsets. I have a few people who cover other lines for special purposes, such as customer service, accounting, etc. How can I set up their phones so they can see if there are any voicemail messages in the box?

In a Magix, the voice mail message waiting indicator works on an extension basis. Phone 100 will not get a light from mailbox 200 if 200 is a regular phone. If 200 is a calling group or general mailbox off an autoattendant, then it can be redirected anywhere on your system. Another option might be to use outcalling to an extension on the system when a new message comes in.

Hrmm.. On the definity I used to support, You could add voicemail lights to a phone for other extensions. We commonly did this for a dedicated support extension. That is how i proceeded with this..

For Example

Support line = 2600
Tech 1 - 2611
Tech 2 - 2612

There is no actual phone assigned to 2610, but the extension is created in the phone system. I added a primary cover to both of the reps phones for that Line. The main requirement was that it have a seperate voice mail box that either of the reps could check.

Is there another way you would do this?

That is why Definity costs so much more!! It has more nice features.

Yep... This just seemed like a simple enough feature that it should have been there. But then again, $40k on a phone system SHOULD get you a heck of a lot better than WinSPM for management too.
