At a site today the fire control system was put into the telco room first. We had a small bundle of cat5 that is a mix of voice and data cables cross the red cables that go up in 6 different spots from their control units.
Someone mentioned that the fire system wires will cause chatter on the voice lines. Is this true?

DTSMAN,

If the Fire Control System uses the Cat 5 cable for ethernet transmission then you will be fine. If it is used for proprietary wiring then you could run into cross-talk issues. If that is the case then I would try to keep the cables separated by at least 8”. If the cables are only crossing over the bundle you should not have any issues either.

If possible cross the fire control lines with your V/D lines at a 90 degree angle to help diminish EMI.
