Voice chopping up on Partner Mail VS

I have a 2-port Partner Mail VS R5 on an ACS R6. It worked fine until we moved it across town. I used a different backplane when we reinstalled it so I could get them up and running quicker (built the system using my hardware and then replaced with most of theirs plus added a 308 card.) Ever since they moved they have been having random problems, both with automatic backups and voice mail.

The biggest problem with the voice mail is the outcalling is either within 5 minutes or taking up to 45 - and you can make 3 test calls in a row and get the same random results. So I figured since it is only a 2-port system (even though its been working that way for years) maybe since their new facility is larger, they are getting a larger call volume and there isn't a port available...so I installed a 4-port expansion card.

The original 2 ports, 47 and 48, are fine but the voice quality on 45 and 46 is so bad you can't use them. I pulled the voice mail and installed a 206 board and tested all 6 ports; they sound great. I also replaced the processor with a new one, because of the random backup and restore issues (it seemed to decide what dates it was going to back up to, and we lost all data after that date...and then wouldn't back up at all, then it would be fine, blah blah blah even after replacing the bu card.)

In any configuration the 2 new ports are too garbled to use. What is the most likely source of this? Thanks in advance for any suggestions :)

I'm leaning towards the hard drive. This could be the first signs that it is on the way out.

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

I don't disagree - since its about the only thing left - but is the hard drive segmented to the point that the two new ports would be answered in a specific, and different, portion of the mail than the first two?

Try a different 4 port card , normally when the Hard drive starts to go and it gets garbled it will be on all ports, and by the way there is a code to "realign" the hard drive and it does work but not a perm fix, but since it's just on the 2 new ports I would try a new 4 port card.

Apart from the garbled voice, I also have the random outcall delays - again - hard drive or card? I think I am just going to order a "new" voice mail but am still interested in where the problem originates for my educational purpose if nothing else.

Do you have all the lines assigned to the VM ports, for outcalling?

What is the outcalling interval?

Do you have multiple numbers in the outcalling list?

If so, do they all start with 9*?

I would put an Auto-Intercom button for each of the VM ports on an extension, and watch to see which port answers, when the outcalling is delayed. I've found that when the outcalling port takes the initial voice mail, the outcalling can be delayed for a few minutes, but not 45.

I would have to agree on trying a new 4-port expansion PC card.
